The Shows You Need To Be Watching

[emphasized type=”emphasized”]So, Game of Thrones is done for the year, and you’ve gone into complete turmoil; how can you possibly fill the void?[/emphasized]

Season 600 of Masterchef just won’t cut it, and some of us don’t give a damn about renovating a house.

So we’ve put together a list of mind bogglingly-good TV series that have left us completed hooked…

Peaky Blinders

This is an epic gangster drama set in post-war Birmingham on the verge of the 1920s. The soundtrack is killer and the haircuts are next-level baddass. There are 3-piece suits and dandy gangster fashion, and the haircuts will have you ordering the “Thomas Shelby” at your next barber appointment.

There’s corruption, criminals, copious amounts of cigarettes and some serious tough-as-nails, old-school mobsters all set against a beautifully grimy backdrop. The brutal street brawls, the violent knife fights and the razor blades sewn into caps puts Sons of Anarchy to shame, and make this series binge-watch addictive!

Peaky Blinders

This show is the Bachelor on crack… Really, really good crack. Created by an ex-US Bachelor producer, this show is CRAYYYY-addictive! The American drama series is set behind-the-scenes of reality TV series “Everlasting” with young producer Rachel pulling out all the stops to create the salacious reality series. Filled with manipulation, breakdowns, bikinis and scandal after scandal, this series will have you glued.

It may look like another boring British drama, but boy are you WRONG! Broadchurch is an enthralling British detective crime drama that will keep you guessing right until the last episode! Twist after turn and the plot thickens! Doctor Who fans can froth over David Tennant, the out-of-town detective brought in to solve a murder, and ends up tangled in small town drama and gossip.

Stranger Things

With such an inconspicuous name, what is all the hype about?! Ummmm… everything!

The Netflix original drama is a nostalgic flashback to a time when science fiction captivated society. Set in small town Indiana, the story centres around the disappearance of 12 year-old Will. As authorities search for answers, a series of extraordinary and extra-terrestrial mysteries is unraveled.

The soundtrack is perfect, and the show is reminiscent of a cross between ‘Stand by Me’ and ‘E.T.’ This 1980s throwback is HIGHLY addictive and will have you breaking out the dad jeans and button up polos (if you haven’t already!).

Stranger Things

Drugs, women, mass murder and money – the makings of a supremely addictive series. Based on the real-life infamous Medellín drug cartel, following the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency agents hunting him, Narcos is devastatingly addictive. Interweaving drama with actual archival footage, it is as thrilling as it is frightening.

If you’re having serious GOT withdrawals, get stuck into Vikings. Muscled Norseman, sultry maidens, pillaging, plundering and pagan warriors make for some serious viewing. Following the exploits of Viking king Ragnar Lothbrok, the drama blends European history with fictional story telling, with every episode packed with intense, adrenaline-filled raids, battles, sacrifices, sex-scenes and a ‘blood eagle’… you’ll have to get to season 2 for that one.
