ROMU: Melbourne’s Roaming Chef

You have that all-important dinner party fast approaching, with guests that are fussier than the Queen. Stressed and frazzled, the overarching question stampeding through your mind finally kicks in: "what to cook?"

Much to the relief of all you hospitable hosts, there is now a new concept set to take away all those worries and fears; you may very well have your cake AND eat it.

Step in, your very own personal French Chef; Romuald Oudeyer (or, Romu for short).

Romu, hailing from Loire Valley, the “Garden of France” as it is known, is here to offer a unique, tailored and authentic dining experience to satisfy the senses; have your very own restaurant-quality meal in your very own home (or designated location).

Romu first fell in love with cooking as a young boy in France, and has a wealth of experience in the kitchen, having worked in world-renowned restaurants across Europe, including at Michelin Starred Restaurants Château La Roche Le Roy in the Touraine region in West of France and La Truffière in Paris.

Relocating to Melbourne years later (after meeting the love of his life), Romu immersed himself in the thriving hospitality scene at prestigious restaurants such as the Jacque Reymonds ‘Bistro Gitan’ and Frank Camora’s ‘Mo Vida Aqui.’

With an acute eye for detail and refined technique, Romu is consistent in producing intricate, visually-pleasing, and above all, incredibly delicious dishes.

Your experience can be as intimate or grand as you would like, as nothing is off limits. But when it comes to the menu, leave this in the trusted hands of Romu and his highly-trained team.

As the scene is set for your perfect dinner party, watch Romu and his team wine and dine your guests as they enjoy a 5-star meal in a 5-star restaurant setting; all of which could be within the comfort of your home.

Using only the most seasonal and freshest produce on the market, Romu caters from 6 to 26 guests and offers the option of a 3-course menu, up to a 6-course degustation.

Key dishes include; tuna crispy roll with nori and wakame cooked with smoked rushes, sea grape, edamame and broccoli purée; Borrowdale pork pig cheek wrapped in wooded bark, parsnip purée and buckwheat; and end with a lemon tart made with lemon curd, almond biscuit, crème fraîche, finger lime and yoghurt sorbet – all meticulously prepared, expertly executed, and above all, delicious!

And the best part? There is no cleaning up to do apart from your drinking glasses! Plates, cutlery and flowers are all provided by Romu himself.

Catering for a range of events including standing events with a unique canapé menu, to a sit-down soiree, each event is tailored to your precise needs.

A 3-course menu starts at $140 per head. To organise your next event with Romu, your personal French Chef, head to their website HERE
